It was hardly anyone who, back in 2010 when the film INCENDIOS was released, imagined that its director, Denis Villeneuve, would become one of the creative pillars of science fiction. This is certainly true when you look at his filmography. It includes films like ARRIVAL (2016), BLADE RUNNER 2049, and DUNE (2021). The latter two titles are based on two respective classics of the genre.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is the sequel to Ridley Scott's iconic 1982 film, and DUNE is a reinterpretation of Frank Herbert's novel of the same name, which was adapted for the big screen in 1984, directed by David Lynch. In other words, Villeneuve has become a trusted figure in the film world, which sees him as a creator capable of preserving and enhancing legendary films belonging to universal cinematic culture.

It's likely that his background in independent cinema, where special effects are secondary, allows Villeneuve to generate audience interest through well-structured stories and skillful direction of the actors. Therefore, even when working in big-budget films, where the art direction is grandiose and spectacular, his narratives retain their strength. Although Dune is available on streaming platforms like HBO, those who have the opportunity should definitely see it in theaters where it's still playing: the Dune experience on the big screen will undoubtedly be unforgettable.
