DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE IN SEARCH OF SALVATION

The world of 2019, in which AVENGERS: ENDGAME premiered, was at the end of a millenarian movement, expiating its fears at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries. Meanwhile, DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, set in 2024, represents the exhaustion of supposedly pristine models, such as Captain America and Iron Man, proposing new protagonists to address the post-pandemic era, economic crises, new wars, and the end of globalization. In other words, a new perspective on reality, one that accepts the world resulting from 2020. It seeks to answer the uncertainty of the present by visiting parallel universes, the so-called "multiverse," where perhaps better versions of those who have died or left our world can be found, bringing them back to our side of history.

Since its first installment in 2016, the Deadpool movies have been a critical and commercial success. Physically, the character is scarred by fire and, as a result of a scientific experiment, feels no pain and regenerates rapidly. He is sarcastic and kills without mercy, and he also suffers the heartbreak of his broken relationship with his girlfriend, Vanessa. The character's complexity suggests that his enduring popularity stems from the work of Ryan Reynolds, who portrays him and also produced the 2024 film, DEADPOOL VS. WOLVERINE. And yes, but it also benefits from its release at a historical moment when the world's direction is uncertain, or at least that's the case for Western countries. Deadpool, the character, represents the remnants of the world as it was known before 2020, before the pandemic, and Wolverine is that hope, who, while not perfect, is capable of self-healing and saving what remains of the West.

DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE is an entertaining film that, thanks to its large budget and the context in which it sets its story, brings its ideas to life in a superlative way. Considering that this film reflects the world at the beginning of the 2020s, its capacity to depict over-the-top scenes allows the viewer to push their own ideas and fears to the limits of the impossible. In this case, cinema is a place where there are no barriers, and the consequences of excess are, to a certain extent, harmless to the viewer. That's why it's important that Deadpool, the character, is irreverent, because in the face of the world's confusion, he has a different attitude that can lead the viewer to unexpected and novel thoughts. DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE is like a film that resembles a stone that hides a secret at its base, and perhaps if it is lifted, the answers that are so desperately needed will be discovered.
