DAISY JONES & THE SIX, PEOPLE MAKING MUSIC

By: Miguel Ernesto Yusty

Daisy Jones & The Six, or as it's known in Spanish-speaking countries, Everyone Loves Daisy Jones, is a television series produced by Amazon, based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It tells the story of a musical group similar to the British band Woodwood Mac. Set in California during the 1970s, the series blends romantic love with the fervent desire to make music among a group of friends willing to do anything to make art the center of their lives. As with other shows of this genre, the phrase "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" is prominent, but the story also includes other perspectives that are given equal importance.

The lead roles are played by Reley Keough as Daisy, and Sam Claflin as the leader of the Six. Both actors, who are also musicians, imbue their performances with the necessary power to make the dramas that drive the complex personalities of the two protagonists relatable. Reley's experience as an actress, having lived the music world intensely as Elvis Presley's eldest granddaughter, adds to her depth. The series transcends its niche audience by giving romantic dramas a significant role in captivating viewers.

DAISY JONES & THE SIX focuses on highlighting the vital creative drive of its characters, bringing them to life. It allows the viewer to witness the creative process the characters follow to compose the musical pieces they perform in each episode. This is why the series is so successful: instead of portraying the artists as victims of their emotional weaknesses and addictions, it chooses to exalt what makes them great as cultural icons of their time.
