THE PERIPHERAL, or simply THE PERIPHERAL, is a television series released by Amazon Prime Video, based on the novel of the same name by William Gibson. The project was brought to the screen by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of the series WESTWORLD. It tells the story of two siblings who enter a virtual reality game to earn money for their mother's medical treatment, but everything becomes complicated when the game transforms into a reality that surpasses the enjoyment of the gaming experience and becomes an extreme threat to their lives.

Jonathan Nolan, one of the creators of the series, is the brother of Christopher Nolan, director of the three Batman films that relaunched the character's popularity in the early 21st century. He is also the writer of Memento, the story that inspired one of Christopher's early films and is a prime example of austere yet successful and deeply unsettling production. In terms of acting, The Peripheral features Chloë Grace Moretz, who rose to fame in 2010 with her role in Kick-Ass. Chloë is a talented actress with a simple beauty that makes her characters believable. As a curious detail, the technology company developing the virtual reality game claims to be based in Colombia, a land of the finest coffee and notorious drug cartels, but not exactly known for its tech giants.

The great strength of THE PERIPHERY: CONNECTION TO THE FUTURE lies in its rural setting, permeated by digital technology, yet simultaneously rudimentary and unsophisticated, more reminiscent of the 1970s than the 21st. This quality lends the series verisimilitude and allows viewers to imagine that, with the right technology, they too could become part of the story.
