TOLKIEN is a biographical film about the author of the epic fantasy novels, J.R.R. Tolkien. It tells the story of the British writer who died in 1973, whose literary work gained cinematic fame after the release of the first film based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy in 2001. Tolkien's expertise as a philologist and linguist, as well as his boundless imagination, led to the creation of a universe that ignited a passion for reading in the generation that grew up amidst the two world wars of the 20th century and continued to gain followers in the decades that followed.
The “Tolkien phenomenon” is similar to that of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter novels, which are extremely popular among young people and children. Rowling's works, as well as Tolkien's, have been the subject of successful film adaptations. They also share the common thread of evoking the world of British fantasy, ensuring their enduring presence in the minds of broad audiences. The film *TOLKIEN* demonstrates how, in the face of the horrors of war, imagination and the ability to invent stories are the best path to individual salvation.
