THE FIRST TIME is a series produced for Netflix by Caracol Television. It tells, in the first person, the coming-of-age story of a man who attends an all-boys school and falls in love with the first young woman admitted. Set in the 1970s, this comedy offers a striking glimpse into a Latin American capital in the years following the sexual revolution, the May '68 protests, and the rise of the hippie movement. It is directed by Mateo Stivelberg and María Gamboa, with a screenplay by the experienced Dago García.

The series boasts art direction that has successfully recaptured the vibrant colors of the 1970s, and it benefits from the fact that Bogotá, the city where the story unfolds, offers well-preserved locations, allowing for filming without fear of compromising the period's aesthetic. Both indoors and outdoors, the series accurately recreates the historical moment that provides context for the narrative. Furthermore, the directing team has developed a coherent visual language, with shots and angles that form a consistent style throughout all the episodes.

Where the series truly shines is in the way its plot unfolds, perhaps thanks to the script by Dago García, an experienced creator who knows how to connect with audiences thanks to his continuous work generating content for both film and television. His skill allows him to easily tackle themes such as the awakening of adolescent sexuality or class conflicts without compromising the story's flow. That's why THE FIRST TIME is worth watching: it's entertaining and allows the inquisitive viewer to linger over the details, without alienating those who simply want to enjoy themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j4strSNNt4
