Just a few days ago, the film THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY was released in theaters in its native New Zealand. Based on the 1937 fantasy novel by British author J.R.R. Tolkien, the film tells the story of an adventurous hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who journeys to the Lonely Mountain to retrieve treasure stolen by the dragon Smaug years before. The novel is the origin of the famous LORD OF THE RINGS book series.

The film, which was initially going to be directed by Guillermo del Toro, ended up in the hands of Peter Jackson, who was the driving force behind the film project of the same name, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Jackson and his entire team have received numerous awards for these films.
