Football in film
During this time of the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, we will make three suggestions of films in which the passion for the art of the ball and the idolatry for cinema, come together in the same work.
The first one is called Escape or victory Directed by the great John Huston and released in 1981, this film is inspired by a true story known as the Death Match. It tells the story of a football team made up of prisoners of war who defeat their Nazi captors and escape at the end of the film. Among the actors were a young Sylvester Stallone and the wonderful Michael Caine, facing off against a villainous antagonist played by Max von Sydow. Of the footballers who participated, we remember the immortal Pelé, Bobby Moore, and Osvaldo Ardiles, to name just three.

The second recommendation is I want to be like Beckham, Bend It Like Beckham, released in 2002, tells the story of a teenage girl who dreams of playing soccer like David Beckham. It starred Indian-born actress Parminder Nagra, who received numerous awards and is now known worldwide for her role in the television series ER. The film also launched the career of a very young Keira Knightley, who played the heroine's best friend and confidante. The male lead was played by the now-renowned Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, known for his role as Henry VIII in the series The Tudors, who in Bend It Like Beckham played the coach of a women's soccer team. The film was a box office success and received widespread critical acclaim.
From 2003, we recommend the comedy Football days, in which a group of friends find meaning in their lives by reviving the team they had in their youth, to try to win a 7-a-side football tournament.
This film, written and directed by David Serrano de la Peña, shows us that passions are the excuses that give meaning to life. Art, unusual hobbies, or sports elevate the monotony of everyday life. That's why, if you love football and film is your passion, here are three recommendations to enrich your existence: rent them, buy them, do whatever it takes, but don't miss them.
