RATCHED, WHO FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST

Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or I Got a Big Fat Custard are the Spanish titles of Ken Kesey's novel, published in 1962, which served as the starting point for the screenplay of the film of the same name directed by Milos Forman, starring Jack Nicholson and produced by Michael Douglas, which was a critical and commercial success in 1975. Ratched is one of the characters in the universe of the psychiatric hospital where the story takes place, and in 2020, Netflix released a series starring her: a vengeful nurse with deep family affections and a great ability to make the world work in her favor.

The series caters to the protagonist's baser instincts, and its narrative is more akin to a tabloid newspaper, though viewers feel as if they're witnessing a visual feast from Vogue. The music is reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock films, and the tension is that of a thriller, with the unique detail that each episode is a self-contained story. The key to the series' success lies in these two factors: its masterful handling of suspense and its art direction.
