New Releases and Recommendations in December

Saudi-born director Haifaa Al-Mansour premiered her film in 2012 in her native Saudi Arabia. WADJDA. It's a film based on the life of one of his nieces. Wadjda is ten years old and lives in such a traditional society that certain things, like riding a bicycle, are completely forbidden. Despite everything, she's a fun-loving and enterprising girl who constantly pushes the boundaries between what's allowed and what's forbidden. Wadjda longs for a bicycle so she can race her friend Abdullah, but her mother won't allow it because bicycles are a danger to a girl's dignity.

The film has been nominated for Best First Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards; nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Satellite Awards; and received the National Board of Review (NBR) Award for Freedom of Expression.
