The two adaptations of children's stories are generating a lot of buzz at the box office this month. JACK THE GIANT SLAYER and OZ: THE GREAT WORLD OF FANTASY are vying for first place. Which one will be the audience favorite?
JACK THE GIANT SLAYER is the latest work from director Bryan Singer, known for the films X-MEN, FIRST CLASS and X2, which tell the story of a group of superheroes created by Marvel Comics.
This time, the story is about a young farmer who unwittingly opens a portal between our world and the world of giants, unleashing a war in which he will be the protagonist and must prove his courage. It is an adaptation of the children's story Jack and the Beanstalk, this time aimed at an adult audience. This tale has been adapted in other projects, such as the Walt Disney animated film starring the famous character Mickey Mouse.
The role of Jack will be played by Nicholas Hoult, an English actor best known for his role as Marcus Brewer in the film ABOUT A BOY (2002). This will be his second collaboration with director Bryan Singer, as he portrayed Dr. Henry 'Hank' McCoy in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
So far, the box office hasn't been very kind to JACK THE GIANT SLAYER. The project, which cost approximately $200 million, has grossed $90 million to date. Meanwhile, OZ: THE WONDER OF FANTASY, directed by Sam Raimi, which recreates the origins of the Wizard of Oz, with a budget of $215 million, has grossed a total of $283 million worldwide and maintains its number one spot at the box office this month.
